HOW IT STARTED

While traveling, I found a vintage library card in a local boutique. It immediately brought me joy to think  of names that could fill this card and how far it could travel as I pass my books to friends and family.

The flaw in a typical library card, I thought, was that I wouldn’t be able to see all the names of readers as the card is filled. If only there was a way to have the card mailed back to me once completed. From that thought, Book Club Card was born.

LET'S BUILD COMMUNITY

Yes - Book Club Card is about reading, but our main focus is community. Reading is about sharing stories with others and stopping half-way through a juicy, suspenseful paragraph, and thinking “you know who would love this book..."

We promote a lifestyle of sharing books, cards, and most importantly, conversation. We believe that reading is not a one player game, but yet a way to bring people together.

SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS

Book Club Card is a San Francisco-based company, and we love it here! Throughout COVID-19, our hearts broke for all empty storefronts located on once lively city streets that seemingly doubled with each passing week.

As we launched our idea, we vowed to remember why we started -- to build community.  Every vendor, within reason, is a member of our San Francisco community who is working hard to maintain the storefronts that create the architecture of the city we love.

FAQ

WILL I GET MY BOOK BACK?

Not guaranteed. The idea is to see how far your book can travel, so hopefully, the last reader's name is a stranger (and a new member of the book club!), so they probably won't mail your book back to you. However, the fun is in the journey, right?

DO I HAVE TO MAIL MY BOOK TO SOMEONE?

Nope! I love mailing books to friends, because who doesn't love receiving a package?! But, if you want to pass your book to a roommate or neighbor, that's awesome too! However, if you are mailing your book to someone, don't forget to ship it using Media Mail for cheap shipping rates

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER ALL THREE CARD NUMBERS IN MY PACK?

Yes! Each card has a unique ID number that must be registered individually. This allows you to keep all three cards for yourself or give one or two away for other people to register and enjoy.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M THE LAST READER?

Awesome! Now, you need to add a stamp to the card and mail it. Then, you're done! We'll receive the card back at Book Club Card headquarters, looks up the original card owner via the BCC ID number, and mail it back to them.
